Interpreting services are very important for conferences, meetings, and other language-barrier-related situations. I've seen that some people take it for granted and decide to ask their bilingual assistants for help, but many times he/she may mess it up. Mastering interpreting takes so much time as we must be training and practicing all the time, but it's a rewarding career. I'm still on the way of deepening more into interpreting, I just need to lose this shyness. Regarding subject matters, that's a point we must clarify because there're still stereotypes of people thinking that being an interpreter means being a walking dictionary, but that's not always possible. I remember some time ago, when I was working in my former university's Language Lab, some students and professors expected me to translate and interpret baseball and boxing terminology, something that it's not even my specialization.
